Silence

his report finally came out. my assumption was unfortunately not that bad: liver cancer.
when the doc told him he'd only have 3 months left, i felt like crying.
i started thinking, even 1 year is too short. what would you do with the time given? i think he made the right choice, quitting work and going back to his roots. unfortunately his dad is no human being. i understand why he hides the truth from (almost) everyone. but as parents or friends, shouldn't you feel something is wrong and not starting to yell at your only child for giving up work, even as a CEO? his dad couldn't care less, i think the only subject he knows to talk to his son about is work. such an ambitious son, isn't it weird, if he suddenly quits? wouldn't a father know there must be a reasonable explanation?
and his poor mother, telling him, she can be only happy when he's around? she doesn't know about his illness, but isn't she putting too much pressure on him now?
after all, he's still reasonable and serious enough, considering the well-being of his kin.
it's hard to see him record his farewell messages for his mom. taking her on trips with his video camera. it's sweet of him, so sweet...

with only 3 months on this world left, he thinks about life carefully. going to apologize to the person he carelessly fired months ago. that very man has given him hope. he thought he didn't have dreams or wishes to accomplish, but the old man was wise. "you need to look at it from the top". he saw the people around him, the things he can do for them, so he wrote a to-do-list. all those things on the list, they are meant to make other people happy, to leave with a good memory, and the only exception is his 2006 christmas promise. this is something only meant for him. the only thing he wants to be selfish about. is he asking for too much? will he pass the calculated time to fulfill his only wish and keep the promise...?
