i watched Maundy Thursday

mmh where should i start?
i consider this movie as brilliant! it really is. totally different from the rest, outstanding...

it starts with the crime scene for which kang dong won's character is imprisoned and gets executed in the end.
as for the female lead, it begins with an attempted but failed suicide.
waking up in the hospital, you learn pretty fast that lee na young's character despises her mom. in the beginning it just seems to be a minor case, the mother acts too proud to actually care for her daughter, saying: why can't you die in silence?
na young's aunt, a nun, takes her out of the hospital, only if she helps her out during christmas time, visiting "poor souls". so she meets dong won in prison.
at first, she's afraid of him, having a reputation as rapist and murderer.
but since both hate live, they develop an understanding and relationship to each other. they only see each other as the only knows to whom they can openly talk and so they tell their most inner secrets.
na young's is: that she got raped at the age of 15 by her cousin. back then, her mom put the blame on her, that she might have encouraged her cousin and is now a shame to the family. that's the reason why she attempted suicide for a total of three times, asking for forgiveness from god.
as for dong won's past, you learn that he and his younger brother had to live on the streets. the mother's husband was a dog who beat her up and so she sent her children to an orphanage, afraid the husband might kill them. but the children left the orphanage to search for their mom, i leave without return.
the younger brother, who loves the anthem sung by a young girl on tv (in fact, that was na young) and wants to get nothing more than nike shoes in live, dies during a cold spring night on the streets.
several years later you find him drawn to a girl, who gets pregnant. being in great pain, he tries to raise money together with his friend for an operation.
visiting an older lady, some loan shark, they make her drunk to rob her. then her beautiful daughter appears. the friend, not dong won, rapes her and kills her, eventually the mother when she hears the screams and rushes into her daughter's room. then some other woman (probably a maid) enters the room, the friend commands to react, and dong won (with the knife, he just picked up from the floor) stabs her. you could tell, he wasn't thinking anything at all during that moment.
knowing the truth, na young wants to help dong won, but everyone puts a deaf ear to her, even dong won's friend, who is imprisoned as well but not on the death row, is not willing to tell the truth, so his life will be spared.
dong wong learns through na young, that his love for his girlfriend and friend, were nothing but striving for happiness, togetherness and the sense of a family live.
while na young, who tells him about her cousin, finally finds peace again and is able to forgive her mother.

both get drawn to each other. closer and closer during those talks.
dong wan tells her about his upcoming birthday, wishing for a pair of nike shoes. but this dream won't come true. instead, it's his turn to be executed.
when the officers tell him, a visitor is there for him, he gets excited, thinking it is na young, visiting not only thursdays now. but slowly he understands. somehow he remains calm. when he's to tell his last will, he learns, that na young is there, watching him and he confesses his love. then they put some cloth over his head. he starts singing the anthem... but then he keeps shouting: i'm afraid, i'm afraid, i'm so afraid...

Maundy Thusday is the Thursday before Easter.
Christians remember it as the day of the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as the Eucharist.
The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The word "maundy" comes from the command given by Christ at the Last Supper, that we should love one another.
In Roman Catholic churches the anthem “Mandatum novum do vobis” (“a new commandment I give to you”) would be sung on Maundy Thursday.
In many other countries this day is known as Holy Thursday.
